How to Communicate Vision

Hey, it’s Jeremie Kubicek here.

We’re excited to have you for this week’s edition of the Relational Intelligence at Work newsletter, where every Tuesday you’ll get an email straight to your inbox from me or my business partner, Steve Cockram.

This newsletter's primary goal is to support you on your personal growth journey, and to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to excel as a leader.

Let's dive in...

Before we get into the message, a quick word from today's sponsor:

Consider bringing Jeremie Kubicek, the co-founder of GiANT, into your team or organization to share the 5 Code Words of Communication and watch the performance of your teams improve overnight.

One of the hardest things to do as a leader is to communicate your vision in a way that is compelling and engaging to everyone in your organization or team.

We all know charismatic, inspirational, and visionary leaders who love to wow us from the stage with spectacular presentations, data, and special effects.

Some of you reading this may have even been that person.

It’s a big moment for your company, you’ve spent numerous hours preparing, rehearsing, and making it the best you possibly can.

They clap politely when you come up on stage, you give it your best shot, and everything in delivery goes exactly how you planned and hoped.

But as you look out into the crowd, instead of standing up and cheering (as you secretly hoped for), at least half the room looks disengaged and uninterested.

You walk down from the stage confused, wondering what went wrong and why it fell flat.

We’ve all been there… I know I have!

After spending the last two decades studying the intricacies of human behavior and how to communicate effectively, we now know WHY this happens…

This simple visual tool helps explain what happens when different leaders stand in front of their audience and share their vision.

To fully understand this tool, you must also understand the 5 Voices.

(if you aren’t familiar with the 5 Voices, you can take the free assessment HERE).

Your Foundational voice — Pioneer, Connector, Guardian, Creative, or Nurturer — determines how many people in the audience are truly able to hear you.

Often the most charismatic, strategic leaders end up connecting with the least amount of people… only about 16% to be exact.

If you’re a Creative or a Pioneer, you’re going to have a hard time getting your communication to land if you are primarily focused on the future.

Effective communication is more about knowing who your audience is than it is about speaking skills.

The less charismatic communicators who establish a strong factual foundation and offer a clear road map for present oriented voices are far more successful.

Those with future-orientated Voices (Pioneers, Connectors, and Creatives) prefer to hear the vision of future-oriented leaders. Present-oriented Voices tend to trust logical and or other present-oriented leaders. (Guardians and Nurturers)

Guardians and Nurturers love vision but unless they can see how we can safely navigate from the present to the future they aren’t coming.

Guardians feel responsible for stewardship of the money and Nurturers for all the people.

If you remember two things from this visual it’s that no one leader can connect with every person in the room and that the Nurturer and Guardian Voices are needed to connect the vision to 73% of people.

To develop and cast a clear, compelling vision of the future you need to use the superpowers of your whole team. If you are a future-oriented leader then make sure that you gain the support of the present-oriented teammates.

That's all for today's message. Thanks for reading!

Until next time,

Jeremie Kubicek
